A friend of mine from college sent me a message the other day on Facebook. I haven’t seen him since I graduated. I really haven’t even talked to him. He pokes me every few weeks on Facebook though. I sent him a message a of couple months ago to see how he was doing…never heard from him. I knew he was in Spain teaching English, or something like that. But anyway, he just sent me a brief message asking how I was and what I was up to. He told me he was back home now, in L.A. Taking it one day at a time. Join the club. I think there’s a lot of us out there taking it one day at a time.
He signed off saying, “the future is unwritten…I hope you are happy and doing well.” That really struck me. When I wrote back to him, I signed off saying, “the future is unwritten… let’s just hope everything happens for reasons.” Later that day, while on my run, the thought entered my mind––the future is unwritten. While running, thoughts like these really have time to stew and come to fruition. I decided, for no real reason, that while I do agree with the basic intention of this thought, I have a slightly different take on it: the future is written, it’s just unread.
